Behavior: Capability Statements

The following artifacts define the specific capabilities that different types of systems are expected to have in order to comply with this implementation guide. Systems complying with the implementation guide are expected to declare conformance to one or more of the following capability statements.

Capability Statement - Dental

Note to ballot commenters- we encourage ballot comments, especially from potential implementer systems, regarding Capability Statements.

This resource defines the expected capabilities for both client and server participating in referral exchanges involving a dental actor (medical/dental and dental/dental).

Structures: Resource Profiles

These define constraints on FHIR resources that need to be complied with by conformant implementations

Dental Consult Note

This Profile defines the Dental Consult Note profile. It contains the textual information regarding what was observed and performed by a general dentist or dental specialist in response to a dental referral as well as references to supplemental dental profiles for that referral. This Consult Note is linked to its Referral via the In-Fulfillment-Of extension reference to ServiceRequest.
Dental Communication Profile

This profile is used to convey verbal and written communication and education between providers, patients and other members of the care team.
Dental Service Request Profile

This profile contains information regarding the dental referral request including a required identifier and a reference to the reason for the referral, if possible. It also includes basic information such as the patient, referring provider, and encounter information that resulted in the referral.
Dental Findings Profile

This profile is used to convey oral findings including findings of an Odontogram, Peridontal (overall assessment and tooth-specific observations), Intra and Extra Oral Soft Tissue, TMJ, TMD, and Occlusion. Note - findings in this profile often support associated diagnoses (FHIR Conditions).
Dental Referral Note Profile

This Profile defines the Dental Referral Note profile. It contains the textual information regarding a referral to a general dentist or dental specialist as well as references to supplemental dental profiles for the referral

Terminology: Value Sets

These define sets of codes used by systems conforming with this implementation guide

Oral Cavity Area ValueSet

This ValueSet contains codes for standard oral cavity areas of the mouth
Dental Observation Codes ValueSet

This ValueSet contains all ICD-9/10, CPT, CDT, LOINC codes, as well as the Clinical Findings (finding) concept from both Snomed and Snodent.
DentalUniversalNumberingSystem

A dental notation system for associating information to a specific tooth, commonly used in the United States.
Dental Reason For Referral

This ValueSet contains coded prominent reasons for referral between medical and dental care settings.
