List of Profiles

The links and descriptions for the profiles that have been defined for this implementation guide are listed here:

Bundle (US-PCS)

This profile represents the constraints applied to the Bundle resource by the United States Patient Care Summary (US-PCS) FHIR Implementation Guide. The Bundle is of type document and includes resources that may be commonly included in the US-PCS. Readers should refer to the US-PCS Composition profile for specific requirements and organization of US-PCS sections and entries. The Bundle profile includes multiple resources beyond required sections to minimize validation messages for unexpected slices in US-PCS documents.

Composition (US-PCS)

A United States Patient Care Summary (US-PCS) is a FHIR document that captures key information for care transitions. It conforms to the International Patient Summary and is intended as a modern, streamlined summary that uses US Core resources to populate specific sections. The US-PCS profiles 7 sections (4 Must Support sections beyond the 3 mandatory) with a primary use case of providing a minimal, non-exhaustive summary that supports clinical decision-making at the point of care for both planned and unplanned care across organizational boundaries. The US-PCS conforms to the IPS but formally derives its Composition profile from the FHIR Clinical Documents Implementation Guide. The US-PCS definition of Must Support is provided in this guide although implementers should also refer to the US Core Implementation Guide definition of Must Support in the context of populating those resources.
