The character string data type stands for text data, primarily intended for machine processing (e.g., sorting, querying, indexing, etc.) Used for names, symbols, and formal expressions.
This defines a FHIR profile of the HL7 V3 ST data type for CDA itself (the HL7 V3 RIM-based standard). Uses to be evaluated. This is not intended to be part of C-CDA on FHIR but is currently published here until we find a good home for it.
