Clinical Order Workflows
introduction
The Clinical Order Workflow framework covers the workflow steps from initial order until order completion/close, including any order modifications, requests for additional information, and cancellations. This framework may be applied at minimum to the following domains:
- Laboratory (including specimen collection procedures, genomic, pathology)
- Durable Medical Equipment
- Specialty Referrals (including consultation/specialty providers, speech/occupational/physical therapy, and post-acute care/rehab/hospice)
- Nutrition
- Imaging - in coordination with Imaging Integration Work Group
- Social Services
- Procedures (surgery / EKG / pulmonary functions/vitals)
- Medication - in coordination with Pharmacy Work Group
- Administration of biological derived products (e.g. blood transfusion)
- Point of Care (including Patient Performed Testing)
This Implementation Guide covers (but is not limited to) the following use cases:
1. Lab: cover reference lab forwarding, identifying copy to providers, result release restrictions
2. Social Service Referrals
3. Durable Medical Equipment
4. Handling of prior authorization, information for coverage / billing in orders
