This page is part of the Quality Improvement Core Framework (v6.0.0-ballot: STU6 (v6.0.0) Ballot 1) based on FHIR R4. The current version which supercedes this version is 5.0.0. For a full list of available versions, see the Directory of published versions

ValueSet: Non-Negative Observation Status

Official URL: http://hl7.org/fhir/us/qicore/ValueSet/qicore-non-negative-observation-status Version: 6.0.0-ballot
Active as of 2018-12-05 Computable Name: NonNegativeObservationStatus

This value set defines the set of codes that indicate a non-negated observation status (i.e. codes that are not cancelled)

This value set was defined to support the set of observation statuses in FHIR that do not explicitly indicate a negative status (i.e. all the codes from the http://hl7.org/fhir/observation-status code system that are not cancelled).

Logical Definition (CLD)

  • Include these codes as defined in http://hl7.org/fhir/observation-status
    CodeDisplayDefinition
registeredRegisteredThe existence of the observation is registered, but there is no result yet available.
preliminaryPreliminaryThis is an initial or interim observation: data may be incomplete or unverified.
finalFinalThe observation is complete and there are no further actions needed. Additional information such "released", "signed", etc would be represented using [Provenance](provenance.html) which provides not only the act but also the actors and dates and other related data. These act states would be associated with an observation status of `preliminary` until they are all completed and then a status of `final` would be applied.
amendedAmendedSubsequent to being Final, the observation has been modified subsequent. This includes updates/new information and corrections.
correctedCorrectedSubsequent to being Final, the observation has been modified to correct an error in the test result.
entered-in-errorEntered in ErrorThe observation has been withdrawn following previous final release. This electronic record should never have existed, though it is possible that real-world decisions were based on it. (If real-world activity has occurred, the status should be "cancelled" rather than "entered-in-error".).
unknownUnknownThe authoring/source system does not know which of the status values currently applies for this observation. Note: This concept is not to be used for "other" - one of the listed statuses is presumed to apply, but the authoring/source system does not know which.

Expansion based on ObservationStatus v4.0.1 (CodeSystem)

CodeSystemDisplayDefinition
  registeredhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusRegistered

The existence of the observation is registered, but there is no result yet available.

  preliminaryhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusPreliminary

This is an initial or interim observation: data may be incomplete or unverified.

  finalhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusFinal

The observation is complete and there are no further actions needed. Additional information such "released", "signed", etc would be represented using Provenance which provides not only the act but also the actors and dates and other related data. These act states would be associated with an observation status of preliminary until they are all completed and then a status of final would be applied.

  amendedhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusAmended

Subsequent to being Final, the observation has been modified subsequent. This includes updates/new information and corrections.

  correctedhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusCorrected

Subsequent to being Final, the observation has been modified to correct an error in the test result.

  entered-in-errorhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusEntered in Error

The observation has been withdrawn following previous final release. This electronic record should never have existed, though it is possible that real-world decisions were based on it. (If real-world activity has occurred, the status should be "cancelled" rather than "entered-in-error".).

  unknownhttp://hl7.org/fhir/observation-statusUnknown

The authoring/source system does not know which of the status values currently applies for this observation. Note: This concept is not to be used for "other" - one of the listed statuses is presumed to apply, but the authoring/source system does not know which.

Explanation of the columns that may appear on this page:

Level A few code lists that FHIR defines are hierarchical - each code is assigned a level. In this scheme, some codes are under other codes, and imply that the code they are under also applies
System The source of the definition of the code (when the value set draws in codes defined elsewhere)
Code The code (used as the code in the resource instance)
Display The display (used in the display element of a Coding). If there is no display, implementers should not simply display the code, but map the concept into their application
Definition An explanation of the meaning of the concept
Comments Additional notes about how to use the code
