.descriptionThe US Core Laboratory Result Observation Profile is based upon the core FHIR Observation Resource, and, along with the US Core DiagnosticReport Profile for Laboratory Results Reporting, meets the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) v2 ‘Laboratory’ requirements. Laboratory results are grouped and summarized using the DiagnosticReport resource which reference Observation resources. Each Observation resource represents an individual laboratory test and result value, a “nested” panel (such as a microbial susceptibility panel) which references other observations, or rarely a laboratory test with component result values. The US Core Laboratory Result Observation Profile sets minimum expectations for the Observation resource resource to record, search, and fetch laboratory test results associated with a patient to promote interoperability and adoption through common implementation. It identifies which core elements, extensions, vocabularies and value sets **SHALL** be present in the resource when using this profile. It provides the floor for standards development for specific uses cases. This profile represents the postpartum status of a patient. If the profile is present, the patient is in the postpartum period and further information about the postpartum status is communicated by the code chosen. The postpartum period, also known as the puerperium, refers to the time after delivery when maternal physiological changes related to pregnancy return to the nonpregnant state. There is consensus that the postpartum period begins upon delivery of the infant. The end is less well defined but is often considered the six to eight weeks after delivery because the effects of pregnancy on many systems have largely returned to the pre-pregnancy state.
