      .descriptionThe US Core Smoking Status Observation Profile is based upon the core FHIR Observation Resource and implementers the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) v2 Smoking status' requirements. This profile sets minimum expectations for the Observation resource to record, search, and fetch smoking status data associated with a patient to promote interoperability and adoption through common implementation. It identifies which core elements, extensions, vocabularies and value sets **SHALL** be present in the resource when using this profile. It provides the floor for standards development for specific uses cases.This Observation profile represents potential patient exposure and contact information and should be used to record information about the patient's exposure to an agent (exposure source) or to record information about those that the patient could have exposed to an agent (exposure target). Recording of this information could assist/support in contact tracing or other control measures.
